Frequently asked questions

Pricing, timelines, warranty and the technical details of GPS tracking

How it works

What is vehicle GPS tracking and how does it work?

A GPS tracker is wired into equipment with an on-board voltage of 10–220 V. At a set interval it collects data — at minimum the coordinates, speed and on-board voltage, plus readings from any sensors connected to it — and sends everything over mobile internet to the Wialon platform.

In the web interface and the mobile app you can see where each unit is right now, the routes it took, how long the engine ran, how much fuel was used, and when refuellings and drains occurred. Separate modules are also available, for example for agriculture and for maintenance scheduling.

Pricing and timelines

How much does GPS tracking cost?

It depends on the task — from UAH 1,900 for the equipment. Prices for every tracker, sensor and adapter are listed in the Equipment panel on the home page.

For full control of complex machinery with fuel level sensors and extra options the figure can reach several tens of thousands of hryvnias: seeing where a car is, and counting litres and engine hours on heavy machinery, are two very different jobs.

Labour costs depend on the region. Installation is carried out by qualified specialists with extensive experience. Specific jobs that require narrow-profile engineers on site are agreed individually.

All prices on the site include VAT. Rough installation figures are in the answer to “How much does installation cost?” below.

Is there a subscription fee for the Wialon platform?

Yes, and it already covers nightly track cleaning against spoofing, the SIM card tariff, the Wialon licence and technical and advisory support. The minimum subscription is from UAH 200 per month per unit.

The exact figure depends on the platform:

  • Wialon Local — UAH 220 per month within Ukraine, or UAH 200 from 10 connected trackers. With roaming — UAH 350 per month, or UAH 325 from 10 units.
  • Wialon Hosting — from UAH 260 per month within Ukraine and UAH 365 per month with roaming. This tariff is tied to the euro rate and may change.

The subscription covers 99% of the platform functionality. That one per cent is SMS alerts: a charge over the tariff may apply for them, and only if such an alert has been created by you or by us with your agreement. Since 2017 not one of our clients has used that option — app and Telegram alerts are enough for everyone.

Integration with SENT or RMPD is billed separately at UAH 325 per month.

How long does it take to install a GPS tracker?

It depends on the type of installation:

  • about a minute — a tracker plugged into the OBD diagnostic port;
  • about 30 minutes — a wired tracker;
  • up to 4 hours — an installation with fuel level sensors: the sensor is cut into the tank and calibrated against actual volumes;
  • longer — if additional options need to be connected.
How much does installation cost?

The cost of the work depends on the region and city where the vehicle is, and on the engineer who travels out: installation is carried out by our own engineers and by contractors in the regions, and their rates differ considerably. That is why there is no fixed installation price in the price list — the final figure is quoted by the engineer for your region.

Rough guides from our practice:

  • a standard tracker — UAH 600–900 per vehicle;
  • installation with a fuel level sensor — from UAH 2,000 without calibration and up to UAH 4,200 for a vehicle with two tanks and the full set of work;
  • travel — from UAH 12 per km.

Travel is charged per trip, not per vehicle. If the engineer fits five trackers on one visit, the journey is paid for once.

An OBD tracker is plugged in by the owner: it goes into the diagnostic socket, which takes a few minutes and no tools. If you still call an engineer out for it, the work costs the same as a standard installation — you are paying for the time on the road, not for the complexity.

Are the prices on the site VAT-inclusive?

Yes. GPS-RESOURCE LLC is a VAT payer, and all prices on the site include tax.

Do you work with private individuals?

Yes, on a prepaid basis. The subscription is the same — UAH 220 per month.

How often do you raise the subscription fee?

Rarely. The last increase was at the start of 2025.

We adjust the rate only when mobile operator tariffs go up, when the cost of running the server software rises, or when prices in the country rise generally.

Warranty

What warranty comes with the equipment?

Teltonika and Bitrek GPS trackers carry a 24-month warranty, fuel level sensors an 18-month warranty — in both cases from the day of installation.

Will fitting a tracker void the warranty on my vehicle?

Formally, a manufacturer or dealer can withdraw the warranty because of any electrical device connected to the on-board network. That is why connecting additional equipment is worth agreeing with the warranty service before you buy the vehicle.

In practice it is not hard to arrange. Warranty departments have an interest in selling the equipment themselves, so it is usually easy to settle on one of two options: their electricians carry out the installation, or ours do it following the wiring diagram they provide.

Our equipment is certified in Ukraine and abroad, and that makes the approval noticeably easier.

Is your equipment certified?

Teltonika publishes certificates for each model separately: CE/RED, UKCA, RoHS, REACH and E-Mark — the automotive type approval under UNECE R10, which is exactly what confirms a device is suitable for installation in a vehicle. The documents are available on the official Teltonika certificates page.

Bitrek is a Ukrainian brand of NPP Diskovi Systemy; its production is certified to ISO 9001 and the products hold Ukrainian certificates of conformity.

If the warranty service asks for documents on a specific model, we provide them before installation.

Fuel monitoring

How is fuel monitored — over CAN or with a level sensor?

It depends on whether the equipment moves or not, and on the geometry of the fuel tank.

Stationary equipment — generators, pumping stations. Here CAN can be calibrated properly, because the fuel in the tank does not slosh. If the unit reports the level over CAN we take the data from there and no fuel level sensor is needed; we fit one only when fuel cannot be read from the bus.

Moving equipment — the other way round: factory data is imprecise because of blind zones at the bottom and top of the tank, the coarse resolution of factory sensors, and fuel movement while driving, which a modern fuel level sensor smooths out. So on cars and trucks we take the level from a fuel level sensor and add CAN separately — when, besides fuel, the customer needs engine RPM and temperature, coolant temperature, AdBlue level, the factory fuel counter and on-board computer error codes.

Will I see fuel drains?

Yes. A sharp drop in level that is not related to engine operation is logged as a drain, with the time and place. The alert arrives in the mobile app and pops up in the web interface. Duplication to Telegram or SMS is optional — the SMS messages themselves are billed separately.

Every refuelling is also logged with its exact volume, so it can be checked against the fuel receipt. You can see what that looks like in the reports in our generator monitoring case study.

The minimum volume the software flags as a drain is set in the unit's settings. It is set slightly above the maximum fuel movement in the tank — otherwise the system would log every slosh of the level at a stop as a drain.

Smaller losses can be seen on the graph in the report. We teach you to work with it — there is nothing complicated about it, and after that an owner identifies a drain of a few litres during a stop on their own. On request we can also look at that graph ourselves.

A drain is logged while the vehicle is stationary — that is when the level in the tank is stable and a drop is unambiguous. In motion, fuel movement makes it impossible to isolate a drain automatically, so a trip is analysed from the graph in the report.

Equipment and platform

What equipment do you install?

99% of the requests we have received in recent years are fully covered by Teltonika trackers (FMB920, FMB125, FMB140, FMC920, FMC003), Bitrek (BI 310, BI 868, BI 820, BI 450), Epsilon fuel level sensors, LV-CAN200 CAN adapters with ECAN 02 contactless readers, Bluetooth temperature sensors, beacons and personal trackers.

We choose the model individually for the task at hand.

Which platform does the monitoring run on?

On Wialon — over 3 million connected objects worldwide and support for more than 3,000 device models from different manufacturers. Access through the web interface and the mobile app.

Can the monitoring be connected to our own systems?

Yes, through the REST API or the built-in retranslator. We also support integration with SENT (Poland) and RMPD.

How is a professional tracker better than a cheap one from a marketplace?

The parallel low-cost market exists and we are aware of it. The differences we see in our own practice:

  • The track from a professional tracker is visibly smoother along the road. You can see it on the map without any measurements.
  • Even an inexpensive professional device has inputs for an analogue sensor and ignition, plus an engine immobilisation option. A cheap tracker may have only two wires — power.
  • You can pick the wrong model: some devices have no GPS module at all and locate the vehicle by the operator's cell towers, with an error from 50 m to several kilometres.
  • Firmware on professional equipment is updated remotely. For a marketplace tracker there are no updates.
  • The warranty on Teltonika and Bitrek trackers is 24 months from the day of installation. How long a warranty comes with cheap devices we honestly do not know. But if the device was officially imported into Ukraine, at least you know who to turn to if it turns out to be a warranty case.
Can I hand a temperature printout to the cargo owner?

Yes — our clients in various Ukrainian cities do exactly that: they send report printouts as confirmation of the temperature agreed with the cargo owner.

The difference in money is substantial. A dedicated printer for a refrigerated trailer costs around USD 700. For comparison, the order of magnitude for one vehicle with one sensor, including the work: tracker from UAH 1,900, Teltonika EYE Sensor temperature sensor UAH 1,300, tracker installation UAH 900, sensor connection UAH 300. A ready-made refrigeration kit is listed on the pricing page.

On top of temperature you also see the location, route, fuel and engine hours of the same vehicle.

What is worth understanding about the limits: the sensor's measuring range is -20 to +60 °C, and this is a tool for monitoring the regime during the trip, not a certified temperature recorder. If your customer requires confirmation specifically under the EN 12830 standard, there is a separate version of the sensor with its own memory — data is exported from it with the manufacturer's app rather than through the monitoring system.

Reliability and service

Does the system keep working when GPS is jammed?

Yes. The tracker keeps recording sensor data even when the coordinates are distorted. A nightly track cleaning algorithm replaces false coordinates with the last trustworthy point and leaves the sensor readings untouched, so the jammed period can still be analysed. The cleaning is included in the subscription and is not billed separately.

There is more on how the algorithm tells spoofing from real movement in our article on automated GPS track cleaning.

Do you work across the whole of Ukraine?

An engineer can travel anywhere in the country. Sometimes, though, the distance makes it impractical — and we say so straight away.

Our engineers and the contractors we have worked with for years are based in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Dnipro and Odesa.

Our office is in Kyiv, 3 Akademika Kukharia Street. Phone lines are open Monday to Friday, 09:00–18:00. Technical support works from 09:00 to 20:00.

Whose Wialon account is it, and what stays with me if we part ways?

The account is created on our resource.

The equipment we install is widely available on the market and works on an open protocol — it can be connected to most other GPS monitoring companies.

History is stored in the database as a separate file. You can export it yourself directly in the software, or we will provide the file at your request. By default the last 365 days of data are kept.

The SIM card belongs to GPS-RESOURCE LLC. When the contract ends it is cancelled — there is no need to return it.

The tracker stopped working. What happens next?

We start with the tracker's own data: it usually shows the cause before anyone travels out — power lost, no connection, and so on. We then agree a place and time for the service inspection with you and, if needed, send replacement equipment.

If the fault is confirmed as a warranty case, the replacement is free and you pay only for the engineer's visit.

If the inspection shows mechanical damage to the device or the wiring, a blown fuse or any other cause not attributable to the seller, the visit and the service work are paid for by the buyer in full.

Can I suspend the service while a vehicle is idle?

Yes, in one of two ways.

Pause — UAH 70 per month. This is not the subscription but only the SIM card tariff: the unit is temporarily removed from the software and monitoring does not run during that time. We switch it back on whenever you ask — usually within 10 to 30 minutes.

Full disconnection — no payments. The SIM card is cancelled. To restore the service later the SIM in the tracker has to be replaced with a new one: we send it and you fit it yourself, or you pay for an engineer's visit and the replacement.

A vehicle was destroyed or mobilised. What happens to the subscription?

Charging stops from the following month after you tell us. In some cases we can absorb the cost and cancel the charge for the current month as well.

Can I take equipment for a trial?

Equipment that stays in resaleable condition after a trial — a tracker, an adapter for connecting to the on-board computer — we can provide for testing by arrangement.

A fuel level sensor we do not give out for trials, and that is not a formality. Its tube is cut to the height of the specific tank, it sits out in the open and quickly loses its resaleable condition, and installation takes an engineer at least an hour and a half. Returning it in saleable condition after a trial is simply not possible.

How much of my time will the system take after launch?

You can forget about the hardware itself — it only makes itself known when technical support has confirmed a problem with it. We have clients from 2017 for whom that has never happened once. All the ongoing work happens in the web interface on a computer or in the phone app.

A few days after installation the first data accumulates and your first questions about what the software can do appear. We answer them as fully as we can and teach you to work with the functionality you need: over the phone or through remote access software. By separate arrangement our employee can travel to you and train your staff — the terms of that visit are agreed separately.

How do drivers react to this?

There was one case: a driver quit while the equipment was still being installed. A month later our engineer met the same driver at another client — and he quit again, off to find a company without sensors.

But there are fewer such companies every year. And fewer such drivers.
